Mark Lewis

Word Pictures

Sit down beside me,

I’ll tell you a story.

Of beautiful women,

And men who are bold.

The kind of a story,

To help us remember.

The wonder of childhood,

Before we grew old.

A story of Word Pictures,

Of sulfur and tin.

Of fern banks and forests,

 That you can hide in.

Of little brown people,

As tall as your knees.

Who walk very quickly,

Through doorways in trees.

Spires of moonlight.

Shells on the beach.

The soft, silent sermons,

The Butterflies preach.

A small, elfin maiden,

In spider web gowns.

Goes gliding right past you,

One foot off the ground.

The old, learned wizard,

Whose mist shrouded tower,

Watches his watches,

Chime hour on hour.

And wait for the wind,

To come running up fast.

And watch as his footprints,

Go past in the grass.

So think of a feeling,

From when you were younger.

Now give it a color,

Or call it by name.

Then pull up the covers,

And keep your head under.

And smile at the darkness,

And know who’s to blame.

So if you can gather,

The pictures I scatter.

Like daisies in sunlight,

You weave into chains.

Then we’ll be the ones,

who will look for the rainbows.

While others think only,

Of clouds when it rains.

Welcome!

Grab a cuppa, pull up a chair, and sit awhile!

You’re invited to wander through these pages and rooms to discover or revisit the immersive and boundless imaginings of Mark W. Lewis, a writer, teacher, actor, musician, mentor, and ineffable storyteller. One listener claimed Mark’s stories were like “seeing fireflies for the very first time”. Mark described his work as bringing his version of magic “to the world of now, that has forgotten the world of then”.

In these pages you will find examples of Mark’s written work, audio versions of some stories, pieces of his music, and a place to leave your own thoughts. We intend this site to grow over time as the cache of Mark’s life work continues to be gathered and curated.
Once again, welcome and enjoy!

Thanks

Sharing Mark Lewis’ work has been a goal and a dream for too long. The reality would not have materialized but for the love, care, creativity and unwavering generosity of Don Carson, our site visionary and illustrator, and Cullen Vance, web designer, sound magician, and web builder. These two men, one, Mark’s closest friend and the other his protégé, selflessly spent dozens of hours making this project a reality. Saying "thank you" is simply insufficient, but it is truly heartfelt.

A warm thank you must also be extended to the small committee of close family and friends who consulted on the creation and compilation of this collection. Blessings to each of you.
